Ace Contractors were engaged by Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust to complete Stage 1 Main of the River Red Gum Parkland project. The works developed 20 hectares of open space in keeping with previously completed stages, and set down the roads, drainage and services infrastructure for the ongoing development of the area along with the landscaping and planting of the site.
Stage 1 Main was completed in December 2020, and features a showpiece lake and wetland system, a grand architectural memorial wall area with precast walls and concrete look out point, paths & seating around a large existing redgum, along with tree-lined avenues. Other features include many interconnected concrete and gravel pathways, carparks and laneways for visitor access, restroom facilities, all-native planting, along with a fully automated irrigation system fed from the site wetland system. Key environmental priorities were protecting and enlivening the 25+ large redgums scattered throughout the site, working safely on both the Campbellfield Creek and Merlynston Creek and the respectful management of the local kangaroo population and birdlife.
